Massachusetts State Police troopers in Hampden County responded to a stretch of I-91 near exit 10B in West Springfield at approximately 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 3, where there was a reported crash involving an SUV that rolled over.
According to police, the preliminary investigation found that the driver, a Springfield resident whose name has not been released, was driving a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero and was ejected when he lost control and the vehicle rolled.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no passengers or other vehicles involved in the crash.
Officials said that the crash remains under investigation with assistance from State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, and Hampden County State Police Detective Unit.
Police said that the crash led to a stretch of I-91 being closed off at exit 10B during the investigation, with traffic rerouted to Route 5. All lanes have since been reopened to traffic.
The crash remains under investigation.
